TECSUN PL-330 is a portable PLL DSP multiband receiver that can receive FM, Longwave (LW), Medium Wave (MW) and Shortwave (SW) frequency bands and is Single Sideband (SSB) capable.

The DSP microchip digitizes the analog radio signal which, in combination with the PLL (Phase-Locked Loop) circuitry, greatly improves the radio's sensitivity, selectivity, S/N ratio and anti-interference capability.

The PL-330 receiver has Tecsun's new ETM+ feature, which gives the possibility of setting up time-specific memories for long wave (LW), medium wave (AM) and shortwave (SW). Its compact size is ideal for travelling. Let the radio wake you up in the morning by setting the alarm, or set the sleep timer to auto turn-off the device while listening before going to sleep. Charge the battery by connecting the radio to a 5V USB charger, one similar to those used for most smartphones and tablets.

As I said in my review of the PL-680...the PL-330 was going to be next! I ordered on Thursday night and it was at my house Monday morning. Anon-Co is just incredible. I have now bought from them: S-2000, PL-368, PL-680, Pl-330. I also have the Tecsun R-9700DX...but that one I cant confirm where I bought it. Anyway, every single purchase from Anon-Co is just super. The customer service cant be matched. They are THAT GOOD. All radios I have bought are tremendous and I am a guy that looks to complain if everything isnt perfect. I cannot find any faults, anywhere!!!! Do not hesitate to buy from these people. On topic of the PL-330, superb reception. no problem with overload when attaching a 500 ft random wire. I bought this one more because of the affordability and the great reviews. Great radio. My favorite remains the Tecsun S-2000. Hoping they have a sale one day. I'd buy a few just to have on standby! Thanks Anon Co for being so reliable. Bill

PL 330 is BEST bang for buck radio out there. All the features it has; sync, SSB U_L, effective, selectable Bandwidth not just wide and wider. ok look at these bandwidths; LW/MW: 2.5, 3.5, and 9.0 kHz...SW: 2.5, 3.5, 5.0 kHz...SSB: 0.5, 1.2, 2.2, 3.0 and 4.0 kHz. That alone is enough reason to purchase this, it makes all the difference in the world. It has decent sensitivity the PL_680, and Sony ICF SW 7600G are better but not a vast disparity between them. External ant input, ETM, 850 memories, doesn't sound bad for speaker size use headphones, signal strength, s/n ratio, and excellent price around $75 USD. It is a compact short-wave radios, and its functions are comparable to those of high-performance models I LOVE it. Rating, BUY IT!
PL-330 DRM and DAB really missing

I love the PL-330, but with more and more AM, SW and FM Stations that disappear on frequency it needs a PL-330x with DRM and DAB reception.
Check out screwed up

Payment Options is screwed up. When I enter my card number, it puts the expiration date in the right place, then it puts my ZIP CODE in for CVC. I correct it, but it still reports "Your Card's security code is incomplete". Let me know when you get it fixed.
How good can a small, cheap, radio be with a modern DSP?
gary bliss
16 May 2021
EditAll commercial portables are more compromised designs than other form factors. Technology moves on and modern DSP chips should move the bar compared to earlier designs and that is the PL-330. I've had mine for a few weeks and can compare it to my now-32-year-old 2010, 20-year-old ATS-909, and newish (but PLL analog!) PL-680. The expected benefits are manifest: it has very good sensitivity and selectivity for such a tiny and inexpensive ( $80 w/shipping for mine) package. While lacking any form of attenuator the receiver seems remarkably resistant (but my no means immune) to overload; which is a pleasant surprise and a high compliment for a cheap, small, unit. While i noted a few birdies the 330 does not seem any worse than my analog units. There are a bah-jillion memories and rich -- if complex -- set of memory management functions (keep the manual handy). An unusual ability -- and very useful for small radio with an under two inch ferrite rod -- is that the PL-330 can bypass the rod on medium wave for an external antenna. Finally the large-ish coat-pocket size, battery life, and low cost are somewhat freeing: the 2010 feels like a brick in comparison but it is no problem to tote the PL-330 anywhere. Make no mistake about it however, the PL-330 is not a replacement for a more expensive, larger, portable. While the PL-330 is a quite good receiver, "no" it does not equal my my 2010 or PL-680 on the same external antenna. By swapping the antenna from set-to-set it is not difficult to find numerous marginal stations that both larger units copy but the PL-330 can not. While the tiny speaker's audio is reportedly "good for its class" it is objectively tiring to me and i almost exclusively use a pair of the newer wireless earphones with the PL-330. The cramped case, limited keys (many keys have multiple, and often unmarked, functions), and only two rotaries make inputs clumsy and unnatural for its many complex functions. For example while the PL-330 will tune in 10Hz doing so is a chore which an extra fine tune/BFO knob would greatly alleviate. Obviously the short whip is a limitation; virtually all my listening is on a wire reel or better (see attenuator comment). The PL-330's headline features are SSB and Sync. The former -- subject to the tuning clumsiness noted -- works passably well. Certainly the 10Hz resolution offers potential for far better zero-beat potential than my older analog portables. However a not unexpected problem in this radio class is the moderate, but noticeable, oscillator instability which makes SSB tiresome to listen to long-term. I do not have experience with the notoriously poor snyc's offered in other DSP portables (e.g., PL-880) but my PL-330's sync is only helpful about a third of the time that i wish to use it and, as expected, heavily filters the audio. I would not call the feature "useless" but by comparison both the 2010's and PL-680's syncs are effective proportionally twice as often for me. Thus for a variety of reasons the PL-330 will not replace my other portables "around the house"; they simply work better or are more convenient to use. But i will be throwing the PL-330 in the luggage with a cheap powered loop antenna on business trips and not feel i am leaving much behind (while not worrying about a Ukrainian baggage handler walking home with an irreplaceable 2010 . . .) All of this with a more-than-fair value-for-money is a reasonable bargain. YMMV. In closing let me say that, since the dawn of DSP mass market integrated circuit availability roughly two decades back, the promise has been for advanced RF capability just by attaching an antenna and power supply to a cheap DSP chip. DSP radios certainly have delivered lower costs: my 2010 cost $760 in today's money and ATS909 was $230. However small form factor radios simply do not have the real estate for advanced IF front-ends, etc, so the initial wave of them had problems. For example they were poor on a number of scores (e.g., overload, IM, birdies, etc) but the chips have gotten better. The PL-330 probably represents about the best that can be done with today's state-of-the-art . . . which sadly may represent the end of an era of mass market portable SW receivers. Sic transit gloria mundi.

Nice upgrade from a Tecsun PL-380

On the whole the PL-330 is a nice upgrade from the PL-380. On the positive side: it covers all of the shortwave bands, supports SSB reception, and is a bit more sensitive on FM. It also has an external antenna input. Two minor annoyances are the battery (a BL-5C lithium cell) which does not last nearly as long as 3 NiMH AA cells in the PL-380, and the tuning wheel is a little too easy to turn inadvertently. Definitely recommended.

This radio exceeded all expectations. Its very sensitive and picks up most stations the larger Tecsun radios get like the PL-880 and PL-680 receive and a Sangean 909ATX. The SSB is very good and the step tuning makes it a delight to use. Another pleasant surprise is the low battery consumption. It lasts a good while before any need to recharge which can be done in the radio. External antenna jack is a must for me and this radio didn't disappoint. The build quality is very nice and feels good in the hand. I recommend this highly.

Delivery took 15 days with e-express honkongpost - very fast for Germany! All in all a good little radio with good to very good reception on all bands. The PL-330 has no rear stand, but you can use the antenna on this lightweight radio instead ;-) LW goes only up to 513 kHz (Why is that?) - therefore no receive of navtex on 518 kHz - what a pity. LW and MW reception you can improve with RFL200/RFA200 Ferrite Antenna.

Best Compact and powerful shortwave radio

Since 2013, I have ordered a radio from Anon Co in Ebay. This order is also satisfactory. The product ordered this time took a week to deliver to Korea. This is a great upgrade compared to the PL-310ET. Shortwave broadcasts such as BBC, NHK, RTA, and VOA in Seoul can be captured as clearly as local FM broadcasts. It is also compact among short-wave radios, and its functions are comparable to those of high-performance models such as the PL-600 and ICF-7600GR. Thank you every time for the kind service. It's a great radio, and I'll be ordering more soon.
