TECSUN S-8800 is a PLL DSP multiband receiver that can be fully operated with the use of a remote control. It receives FM, Longwave (LW), Medium Wave (MW) and Shortwave (SW) frequency bands and is Single Sideband (SSB) capable.

This radio receiver is equipped with an analog High-IF circuit and DSP triple conversion decoding technology. The DSP microchip digitizes the analog radio signal which, in combination with the PLL (Phase-Locked Loop) circuitry, greatly improves the radio's sensitivity, selectivity, S/N ratio and anti-interference capability.

Fitted with a class-AB type power amplifier and an ultra-dynamic full-range speaker, it creates a wonderful sound with excellent high/low tone selection. The remote control provides the possibility to directly key in a frequency, access the memory, use its full-range of features and simply enhances the overall ease-of-use!

One issue

A month ago I wrote a glowing review of this great radio. It does have one issue that is somewhat annoying. The telescoping antenna keeps coming out of its socket when adjusting to any degree. It is easily reinstalled but will not stay secured in its socket mount.
Reply From Anon-Co:
Hi, thank you for your feedback on this issue. Would you be able to send us a photo of this particular issue. Our team can then have a look to see if there is any solution for this.

I recently purchased the Tecsun S-8800 and it is everything that they claim it to be and more. It's a very impressive radio especially considering its reasonable cost. It has all the features that one could possible want or need in a radio of a comparable price range, they left nothing out on this radio. The craftsmanship is superb and the owners' manual leaves nothing to chance, it covers every function and feature perfectly and in detail. Many years ago I had a ham license and I'm hoping this radio will get me back into the spirit of getting my license again, as it has single side band capability. I highly recommend this radio!

New arrived today , production date march 2021 , one nice radio with great sound coming from the speaker, very sensitive on the SW bands just using the telescopic whip i actually thought there was going to be some overload using a external OCFD antenna , i was very surprised after fitting the bnc connector that there was no overload noticed at all! The S-8800 can hear anything and mostly better than the old FRG-100 and other dedicated amateur radio/SW radios i have/use , AM demodulation on the broadcast band on weak signals is very very good , well done Tecsun i'm very happy .

Beautiful radio. Fantastic fm reception with telescoping antenna. Shortwave is excellent using external dipole. Way above average shortwave with telescoping antenna. MW/AM is above average and becomes excellent using a tuned passive loop. Overall, this radio beats my Tecsun pl-880 and my Crane ccradio E2. This radio is simply a joy to use. It s a lot of money but it s a whole lot of radio.

The two cons I've heard about this radio are its cost and the battery arrangement (lack of AC/DC power adapter). I would argue that its price, relative to value to the individual, is quite reasonable based upon the built-in quality and performance of this radio. The first time holding this rig, with its heft and gorgeous metal knobs, assures the user that this is not the cheap little portable you may have come to expect. The 18650 battery is lightweight (compared with the typical 4 D-cells), is commonly used in items such as high-powered flashlights and vape gear, provides many hours of use between charges (which can be accomplished without even removing them from the radio), can typically last a couple years of continuous use before replacement, and is readily available (currently @ $11-$12) on the net. Consider that most adapters available these days contain hi-frequency magnetic components which create unfriendly RF noise. For my personal use, the battery arrangement of this radio is a huge plus. Sensitivity on MW, SW and FM bands is superb, and SSB tuning of amateur SW bands (similar to PL-880) is a breeze. The remote control is very user-friendly (wish I had one for my S-2000) and can operate nearly all of the radio's many functions. But, in my opinion, the standout feature of this radio, whether listening through earbuds or the large 4" speaker, is its full, rich sound (isn't that why we buy radios?). And of course, dealing with Anon-Co is always an absolute pleasure - my radio arrived (in the mid-western USA) three business days after order.

After owning many radios, including: Sony, Panasonic, and Sangean branded radios, I find this to be the finest radio yet. ShortWave, MediumWave, and FM broadcasts are unparalleled. Instead of technology for technology sake, you have provided technology for radio sake. Nice job and thank you.
